I have heard that the English language is a difficult language to master due to many different reasons. One of these reasons is the fact that the same word may not only have many different meanings but also many different functions as well. Plan is one such word. It may either be a noun or a verb.
As this year draws to a close many across our County and region are in the process of planning their workdays for the next year. This process takes many different paths for different people. Some may use a pocket calendar, some may use their phone or another electronic device, and others are Outlook fans or a combination of different methods of the planning process.
But what would you use if your job description included helping lead the planning department and plan for the future growth and development for an entire County. Bradley County is blessed with the professional skills and abilities of many people with a heart for service to others and their community. One of these professionals is Mr. Bently Thomas. As our Director of Planning, Mr. Thomas is involved with many projects daily that are vital for Bradley County’s continued success.
With a vast history of service to others that includes early work as a U.S. Congressional Intern, State of Tennessee Legislative Bill clerk and then Director of marketing and sales with a retail furniture company. He has also served as a community principal planner with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development before becoming a valuable part of our team almost 2 years ago. He and his dedicated support staff of professionals are responsible for all aspects of Bradley County’s Planning, Stormwater, Floodplain Management & Building Inspection Departments. They administer and facilitate the comprehensive planning program for Bradley County and are the main contact for all zoning, subdivision, flood related inquiries as well as preliminary and finalized residential, commercial and industrial development layout inquiries. Their work continues with assisting and advising the Bradley County Regional Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) and Bradley County Commission on all planning related items. He and his department also are the Bradley County Floodplain Administrator overseeing the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and are responsible for the addressing of all structures in Bradley County outside of the Cleveland Corporate Limits.
As Bradley County’s website’s second most visited site with multiple thousands of visits per month it is easy to see how one’s idea of planning may have a different meaning from others. If you are ever in need of service from Bradley County’s planning department please know that they are conveniently located on the ground floor level of the Bradley County Annex building on the 2nd Street (south side of the building). Their phone number is 423-728-7106 and you may also visit the Bradley County webpage at www.bradleyco.net . If you keep your cursor over the 5th of 6 links across the top of the page that is named "departments”, you can then choose planning as one of the dropdown choices that are available for even more information.
Join with me in saying thank you to all in Bradley County government who strive each day to offer service that is accurate, beneficial and courteous. Mr. Bently Thomas, his team of exceptional talent and ALL who labor each day across Bradley County providing service to their fellow citizens are yet another reason that Bradley County is Tennessee at its best.
